UPDATE 4/29/10
Its me Mindi the Diva, remember me? The doc said I could be adopted. If you are interested in me please read up on Liver Shunts. Mine is not fixable but I can live a long life with special food and a couple of medicines; none of which are very expensive.
Please tell the Angels if you are interested in me.
Mindi is being fostered in NW Ohio near Ft Wayne, IN.
Update 1/15/10
Mindi’s surgery took place today. Unfortunately, once they got in it was determined to be MicroVascular Dysplasia (MVD). This is an inoperable and unfixable condition. MVD is managed by way of diet and supplements. Prognosis is good and Mindi should live a normal life span. We hope she will be home on Sunday. We will keep you updated of course.
Prior to Mindi’s surgery, we had raised so far $465.00. That did not even cover the deposit of $1500.00 we had to make yesterday. We will know the balance of her expenses after we pick her up. Fortunately for us, the clinic in Columbus where Mindi is, will extend a 6 months same as cash payment program. We just hope and pray we can raise the rest of these needed funds to pay off the balance of her bills.
Please consider making a donation to assist us. Any amount, no matter the size will help. Thanks so much for your continued support.
MicroVascular Dysplasia is microscopic changes in the liver that may cause blood to pass more quickly past the liver cells instead of slowly percolating by and through them. Dogs can have the same clinical signs and blood work changes as those with shunts, although more often the fed bile acids are not as high, the fasting bile acids are near normal, the albumin and blood urea nitrogen levels are normal, and the signs are less severe. Treatment includes low protein diets and lactulose, with or without antibiotics. Diagnosis is made by liver biopsy (the results of this are exactly the same as a shunt) and by proving that there is not a shunt. This disease is hereditary.
Note: Any liver disease can cause bile acids to go up and many medications (such as phenobarbital or steroids) can as well.

Mindi was admitted to the hospital today and her Liver Shunt surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. During her exam and ultra-sound today, it was discovered that she also has stones in her kidneys and bladder. The dogtor plans on removing them at the same time plus he plans on spaying her too.
It is certainly a big day for Mindi, so please keep her and her medical team in your thoughts and prayers. Check back for updates soon.

I am one lucky little girl. A friend of the Angels rescued me because my parents could not afford to pay for liver shunt surgery. My new Mom said that the Angels would raise the $4000.00 somehow.
Mindi is my name I am 1 year old and weigh 7 pounds. I really am a Diva. Sitting on a pillow or sleeping on Mom or Dads pillow is my favorite thing to do. I like to be higher then any of the other dogs here.
Please help the Angels raise the money for my surgery. Remember every $1 counts.
