Hello! My name is Lazarus but you can call me Laz. I am a 7 week old Shar Pei Beagle mix. My story is a great holiday story for everyone but for those of you that rescue dogs hopefully my story will help you to keep doing what you are doing in 2010. I really am a Holiday Miracle!
A nice lady got a call from a puppy mill that our Mother was very sick from a C-section that was performed two days earlier but not in a vet’s office, it was done by the breeder. My 3 brothers and I were not getting any care or food from our sick Mother. This nice lady came right away and picked us all up. My Mom was so sick that the lady was afraid she would not make it back home before she died. The nice lady immediately got in touch with Petite Paws Rescue Angels so we made a stop to get dropped off to them and then we were taken to a very nice dogtor that took our Mother. The dogtor just shook her head in disbelief. The dogtor promised she would do all she could do for our Mom. The dogtor said things looked very grim for all of us. Now this normally is not the kind of breeds that Petite Paws Rescue takes in, but this was an emergency and nobody else would step up to help so they had to in order to try and save us.
Next the lady contacted Angels for Animals Rescue League in Lima Ohio. She took my three brothers and me there. They made a call to Allen County Correctional Institution to see if they could take us and care for us. We were just born new puppies and needed constant 24 hour care. So off we went where two officers told this nice lady they would do all they could do.
Within an hour, the dogtor discovered our Mother was full of infection and very septic. The dogtor felt the humane thing to do was to help our Mom to the Rainbow Bridge. Two of my brothers died that same day and the other one a few days later.
I was all of a sudden an orphan but I was not alone because I had the inmate that was feeding me and loving me as if he was my Mother. A lot of the guards and inmates would show me love and how to play. I am a fighter so I kept hanging in there. At seven weeks old I was sent to a new place as it was time for me to get shots and other medical things they could not do at the prison. I was soon reunited with the lady that picked us up that day from the lady that saved us from the puppy mill. Through her tears she told me that she would be my foster Mom until I was old enough to be adopted. Soon I will be ready for adoption. I am a very lucky little boy. If not for people who care, I would not be here today.
If you are looking for a place to make a donation before the end of the year please consider Petite Paws Rescue Angels or any other 501(c)(3) rescue. If it was not for these rescue organizations, me and a lot of other puppies and dogs would die a slow death in puppy mills.
Lazarus is being fostered in NW Ohio. He should be ready for adoption in a few weeks after he is neutered. Please consider making a donation to sponsor him and help pay his vet bills and the bills for his mom and brothers who did not make it. Thank you.
Please read our adoption policies thoroughly before applying to adopt.

Our Special Needs dogs (medical issues, seniors, puppy mill rescues, emotional issues) must be adopted close to their foster homes.
